distress call

in case you didn’t notice, distressed denim was having a moment this summer. beat-up boyfriend jeans, high-waisted flairs, skinnies and shorts were everywhere, and they were all tattered, torn and fashionably destroyed. now, my personal philosophy is that trends must be worn with caution, but i’m all in for this one and i’m taking it in to fall.

i wear these distressed grey jeans often and try to pair them with something classic or girly to balance the roughness.

quiet any talk about appropriate or inappropriate for your age, and relax those old fashion ideas. (yes, white after labor day. yes, navy and black together. yes, shoes and bag of a different color.) the trick to this denim after 25 is finding a version that is not overly destroyed, and pairing your choice with a more classic top to minimize looking too trendy. what about torn boyfriend jeans and a classic button down shirt? or frayed skinnies with a print top and blazer for evening?

white jeans are for everyone, at any size. really. it's getting late for this particular look if you're not in cali, but these jeans with a cable knit sweater & booties are just right, anywhere.

i’ve worn my white jeans more than a little bit for the morning PA meeting, book club (which i recently quit) and Sunday brunch. these are a super safe bet for almost anyone - a medium wash with just a touch of destruction. if you don’t already have a pair, join the movement.
