ages ago, before the husband, the littles and the dog, i used to have free time. do you recall? it may take you a moment to remember a time when you awoke to your body’s natural circadian rhythm, leisurely watched a favorite tv series, jumped in the car for a spontaneous road trip with your boo or met friends for a three hour lunch. well, way back then, i also had time to contemplate, plan and play dress-up before going out, and gasp, document my favorite combinations. seriously. i would write down the pieces that made up my so-cute outfit to remember for a next time.
now that i can’t pee without visitors, i have to use no-fail style recipes that work time and again with successful results. these recipes serve as simple, go-to concoctions that stay top of mind so i’m never staring blankly into the closet. no, thank you. who has time for that? nothing complicated, nothing fancy, but dependable and great-looking "uniforms" that let me dress, and get on with my day.
this post is the first in a series that will give you the winning ingredients for quick, easy and stylish outfits. think of them like baked chicken for your wardrobe.
1 pair of well-fitting jeans
1 favorite white top
1 pair of interesting shoes (any style, but noteworthy in color, design or detail)
1 fun accessory (your third piece)
this recipe works for so many scenarios. use it for running errands, office casual, lunch plans, evenings out. your shoe and accessory choices should dictate the tone of the outfit. if it’s relaxed, go with sneakers or flats and your regular jewelry, and if it’s more formal, pair with heels and a noteworthy belt, scarf or drop earrings.
that’s it. done. next.
